A dental implant repair is a restorative dentistry treatment that is used to fix damage to a dental implant. Dental implants are metal posts or frames that are surgically placed into the jawbone, and act as artificial tooth roots. Crowns are then placed on top of the implants to complete the smile restoration. Implant repair can include a number of different treatments, depending on the type and severity of damage, from addressing cracks or chips to doing a full implant replacement.

What To Expect During a Dental Implant Repair Procedure

The type of dental implant repair you need will depend on the extent of damage to your implant. Minor damage, such as a small crack or chip, can usually be repaired with a simple in-office procedure. More significant damage may require surgery to remove and replace the implant.

If the crown is damaged, it will need to be replaced. In some cases, the implant itself may be undamaged, and only the crown will need to be replaced.

If you have damage to your implant that is causing pain or making it difficult to eat or speak, you may need a procedure called “implant removal and replacement surgery.” This type of surgery is usually more invasive than repair, and requires a longer recovery time.
