If you're in a tremendous amount of pain or know that one of your teeth has been recently chipped or cracked, you should get a dental exam right away. To get a full picture of your dental health, like when you're visiting a new dentist for the first time, an exam may be necessary.

The Process For Exams and X-Rays

Wondering what to expect when you visit our office for a dental exam and X-ray appointment? The process is simple and will typically go as follows:

• If you're getting X-rays during your visit, it will likely be one of the first things we get done. The hygienist or assistant will have you bite down on a small tab and position the X-ray machine next to your mouth.
• The hygienist will then step out of the room to push the button and take the X-ray.
• Once the X-rays are taken, the dentist will review them for any signs of decay or dental problems and review them with you.
• The rest of the exam will include the dentist doing a visual examination of your teeth and gums, as well as your head and neck.
• The dentist will also have you bite down to check your teeth and their alignment.
• Finally, any recommended treatments will be discussed and then you'll be on your way!
